Progress for Women Is Progress for All
Local musicians and artists from many different nationalities, both male and female, have come together from all over Northern Ireland to create a unique and inspiring fundraising CD.
The CD, entitled She holds half the key, was launched at a special concert in October. All of the artists have given their services free of charge to raise funds for UNIFEM, the UN Development Fund for Women.
The CD was launched at a very successful concert at the Courtyard Theatre in Ballyearl, Newtownabbey on Saturday 4th October. Performers included The Motion Project, a multicultural music collective, Mojokelt, one of the hottest rising bands on the folk/roots music scene, well known harpist Patricia Daly and many others. The CD has 16 tracks of original music and a number of the songs have been specially written for UNIFEM.
"We wanted to do something to raise awareness of the plight of women in the developing world and to show how beautiful our world can be when both genders contribute equally and in harmony" said Inge Haghighi, singer songwriter from Bangor and the inspiration behind the project. “The CD has something for the whole family to enjoy with Celtic, modern, folk and world music at its best.”
All the proceeds from CD sales and concert tickets will go to the UNIFEM Trust Fund which supports the ‘Say NO to Violence against Women’ campaign.
"We would love more people to join UNIFEM UK as members and help support the wonderful projects which change the lives of women and their families around the world," said Hazel Holmlund, chair of the Northern Ireland Branch.
